TITLE: Enviromental Services Staff

JOB TYPE: Pool (On Call)

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Services Staff maintain the general appearance and cleanliness of the facility by cleaning and sanitizing rooms, floors, beds, waiting areas, restrooms and all needs of the hospital or clinic facilities.  This position meets and maintains sanitary requirements as directed by hospital regulations and responds to environmental services needs from patients, visitors and staff while using appropriate actions to alleviate known and potential hazards. All Environmental Services Staff display a willingness to learn and follow Teton Valley Health Care policies and procedures.

  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of hospital authorized chemicals, their use, and proper safety precautions pertaining to each chemical.
  • Cleans occupied patient rooms, discharged rooms, offices, lounges, waiting rooms, and all other hospital areas as directed or needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of how to respond to each Hospital Emergency Code.
  • Effectively communicates with all hospital staff and employees.
  • Empties trash cans and ensures garbage and bio hazard waste is properly disposed of, using required proper techniques as needed.
  • Washes walls, furniture, and equipment while utilizing cleaning detergents and utensils to ensure a clean Hospital Environment.
  • Follows daily cleaning schedule of facility and responds accordingly to unexpected emergent needs.
  • Completes daily duties and cleaning of assigned areas efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Restocks linen carts, monitors linen usage, and ensures an adequate supply of linen remains stocked in each assigned area. Collects, washes, folds, and repairs all laundry daily. Ensures OR linens are kept in good condition and stored properly
  • Utilizes proper hand washing and hand hygiene procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of overall function of the Environmental Services Department and keeps all charts current.
  • Reports unsafe equipment and utilizes "Wet Floor" signage as appropriate.
  • Assists with any other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in professional office and patient care environments located within a Critical Access Hospital and two rural health clinics.  This role routinely uses cleaning chemicals, equipment and machinery. Regular contact with staff, patients, and community members is to be expected. This position frequently works in patient rooms and other care locations and requires confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Work environment may include space constraints and frequent interruptions. Hazards in this role may include but are not limited to exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, and contagious illness.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and follow instructions written in or given verbally in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and all healthcare professionals and TVHC staff.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Valid Driver License

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working in a hospital, clinic or other patient care setting.
  • Experience in commercial/industrial housekeeping including laundry and linens
  • CPR certification
  • Additional languages Spanish preferred

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and/or walk at least 75% of the time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs for up to 50% of the time
  • Full range of body motion and an ability to lift, pull and/or push up to 50 70lbs occasionally
  • Ability to frequently stoop, crouch or reach below, at, or above shoulder level for short periods of time on a regular basis
  • Mental, physical, and emotional ability to operate under stressful situations caused by high demands on time and communication skills
  • Manual dexterity, ability to concentrate, and good eye-hand coordination required
  • Written and spoken communication skills require ability to speak, hear and see
  • Vision requiring near and far acuity, depth perception, and an ability to adjust focus are required for frequent assessment of cleanliness within the facility.
